Santa Maria, the Mother of all Pizzas

March 03, 2017

Santa Maria Pizzeria has been described by our new Creative Producer, Martina, as serving the best pizza she has eaten outside of Naples and she should know a) being Italian and b) having excellent taste. Inspired by tales of the heady scent of truffle oil pervading the restaurant, pillow-soft-on-the-inside-crisp-on-the-outside dough and properly creamy buffalo mozzarella, three of BWOM’s greediest employees headed off to the Fulham branch (the other restaurant is in Ealing) to tuck in and report back.

A quick peek at Santa Maria’s website promised “Quality and quantity at honest prices” and,  with not a scrap left on any of our plates and a bill that was £18 and a few pence per head, including drinks, we would second that motto.  Crucially, the pizza really did live up up to Martina’s promise.  The dough had a satisfying, wood fired crunch that almost immediately gave way to a soft, easy to chew interior – incredibly moreish, kind to the teeth and all too easy to finish in its entirety.  The toppings were authentic, delicious and varied with the option to devise your own combination – not a groundbreaking idea but very enticing when the extras include specialities such as nduja, friarelli and that famously aromatic truffle oil.

If you are lucky enough to live in or near Fulham or Ealing and have a craving for the sort pizza you would eat on the streets of Naples, we suggest you get down to Santa Maria asap and prepare yourself for a treat.
