Life in Luxury Events, Episode 11

From Wimbledon celebrations and Mediterranean-inspired garden parties to exquisite dinners at the Tower of London and St Paul’s Cathedral, July, August and September showcased the creativity, hard work and hospitality that define By Word of Mouth.

July

Wimbledon once again marked the start of a busy summer season. Catering throughout the Championships for our client has become a much-anticipated fixture in our calendar, and this year our chefs embraced the occasion with a playful celebration of British summer produce. Inspired by the tournament’s most famous pairing, our Wimbledon Strawberry brought together strawberry and vanilla parfait, mint-marinated strawberries, chocolate and micro mint for a fresh interpretation of strawberries and cream.

The month also saw us return to St James’s Square for a Riviera-inspired celebration. Designed by our in-house creative team, the event transported guests to the Mediterranean coast. A menu of herb-marinated meats, freshly baked gourmet pizzas, colourful salads and vibrant cocktails captured the relaxed elegance of coastal dining.

At Two Temple Place, a historic backdrop provided the setting for one of our most visually striking events of the season. Guests enjoyed elegant canapes and immersive food stations centred around a dramatic still-life-inspired installation of grapes, figs, artichokes and seasonal produce. Against the venue’s rich interiors, the display celebrated abundance, colour and craftsmanship while creating a memorable focal point for the evening.

Back at BWoM HQ, we also welcomed the wonderfully talented Pietro for a client tasting. Guests enjoyed watching fresh burrata being handcrafted before their eyes, bringing a touch of Italian theatre to our tasting room. Safe to say both clients and the team were impressed, and we’re hoping this won’t be the last visit from Pietro.

August

August often brings a slightly different rhythm to the events industry. While the calendar remained busy, it also offered many of our team a well-deserved opportunity to travel, recharge and return with fresh inspiration.

From Greece to Colombia, our colleagues explored a wealth of destinations, discovering flavours, ingredients and dining experiences that inevitably found their way into conversations back at HQ. You can read more about where our team went and what food and drinks they discovered in our blog ‘The Perfect Pairing.’ Food inspiration can come from anywhere, and some of our favourite menu ideas are born from experiences outside the kitchen.

The events certainly didn’t slow down. One highlight took us beyond London to the beautiful Thornbridge Estate, offering a welcome change of scenery and a chance to deliver an event in a completely different setting. Closer to home, we were delighted to cater at breathtaking venues including The Wallace Collection and Lancaster House, where we catered a beautiful summer wedding, designed and organised by Party Planners.

August also marked one of our favourite moments in the culinary calendar: the autumn/winter canape tastings. Hundreds of new canapes were prepared by our talented canape chefs, Jane and Maimie, giving the wider team the chance to experience the menu first-hand before launch. These tastings are an important part of our process, ensuring everyone understands the canapes they are presenting to clients for the forthcoming season. Early favourites included beetroot & horseradish tartare, cucumber & pickled ginger sushi cups, and crispy sage and onion chicken.

Of course, August wouldn’t be complete without our annual summer party. This year, the team headed to London’s Crystal Maze Experience, embracing a healthy dose of competition before returning to HQ for games and a delicious barbecue. A perfect reminder that while we spend our days creating memorable experiences for others, it’s important to make time to celebrate together too.

September

There’s something about September that always feels full of possibility. New seasons, new menus and, this year, a number of exciting new client partnerships.

One standout event saw us work alongside Word on the Street Events at the Natural History Museum, where 200 guests dined across two spectacular long tables beneath the museum’s amazing surroundings. Combined with a special performance from Russell Watson, it was an evening that perfectly balanced scale, atmosphere and entertainment.

Elsewhere, we catered an impressive dinner at the National Gallery organised by our friends at Origination Global, supported the opening of a new London office with panoramic views across the capital’s skyline, and celebrated London Fashion Week with Marks & Spencer at the Design Museum. Each event offered something completely different, highlighting the variety and creativity that define life in luxury events.

September also marked the official launch of our new autumn and winter menus. To celebrate, we invited clients to HQ for an evening of seasonal inspiration. Our tasting room was transformed with warm lighting, autumnal foliage and elegant styling, creating a relaxed environment to reconnect with industry friends while showcasing the flavours of the season ahead.

One of the month’s most memorable experiences came through a collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces Events, Event Concept and Veevers Carter at the Tower of London. Guests were treated to an extraordinary evening that included a private viewing of the Crown Jewels, drinks on the battlements overlooking the Thames and a storytelling-led dining experience within the Medieval Palace. Experiencing the Ceremony of the Keys provided a truly unforgettable finale, offering a rare glimpse into one of London’s most enduring traditions.

To round off an exceptional month, the team returned to St Paul’s Cathedral for a dinner held beneath its magnificent dome. Catering on the cathedral floor is always an immense privilege and a reminder of how fortunate we are to work within some of London’s most incredible and inspiring venues.

As summer gave way to autumn, these three months reminded us why hospitality is so rewarding. Whether working within world-famous landmarks, introducing new seasonal menus or creating experiences that bring people together, every event offered something unique. We can’t wait to see what the final months of the year have in store.
